geoff says - car boots cornwall
Today at TRURO-HALLOWEENPosted: 31/10/2010
We moved to Truro at short notice due to the bloody awful weather conditions at MABE the ground was sodden all day.
It was a FREE day to buyers and the 25 brave sellers who set up their stalls for some very supportive buyers.
We had countless calls from early morning and visits to our website but it is amazing how many people are put off 'going out cos its raining'
Don't think about it - Do it! The fresh air and exercise will do you the world of good!
You have ONE LIFE - live it!
Our team won the day with the lively pictures on GALLERY!
Thank you to everyone who turned up!!

Dealers Not to trust!Posted: 23/10/2010
Dealers-Not to trust!
Dealer One!
Newquay Circus Fields.................8th July 2010
When the Market Traders are shown into the Car Boot Sales early to set up their stalls they pay a higher price for their selling spaces therefore deserve ample time to display their stocks.
I always make a point of going around and talking to these sellers and seeing what is being sold.
Trading Standards pay regular visits to our Car Boot Sales/Markets we are aware of their guidelines and in this website you will see the Trading Standards advice and recommendations.
On this occasion one man stood out a ‘con man’ trying to use me as an advert for selling his foul wines to our customers!
Below is an extract from a requested report.

On Thursday 8th July I was inspecting Market Traders stalls when a man shouted to me 'Hey Geoff I have a present for you' he went to his van producing two bottles of wine which offered them to me. I told him I do not accept gifts and we do not drink wine, he seemed most determined and told me he had 40 cases of the wine in his vehicle which he claimed he was going to deliver to shops later that day.
I told him 'under no circumstances should he sell the wine'
When I returned to the stall I again reminded him not to sell. The two bottles were still on the table as part of his display and I took them to show to my staff advising them to watch the man.

According to other sellers he then distributed the enclosed leaflet to their stalls, they learned he would be at ROSEUDGEON on Wednesdays where they dont mind him selling.

I had left Newquay and received a phone call from Hayley our supervisor to say the man had traded 2 cases of wine and further he told other sellers 'I cant sell any until Geoff leaves the field'
Later, I spoke to the buyer of the wine advising him it was illegal for him to buy.

The man named Simon we are not aware of his surname his email address is (x x x x x x x ) was told by another member of staff to cease trading with the wine. He was told that I had BARRED him from coming to our Car Boot Sales/Markets because despite two warnings from me he broke the law by selling wine which he denied.

He later phoned and amongst a further 30/40 calls he threatened 'to kill me and sort out Hayley the snitch a female member of staff who reported the incident to me.

I was concerned for the safety of myself and team and reported the matter to Newquay Police, showing them the offensive and threatening texts, they offered an appointment for two days later (short staffed) but I said I would cope with the calls which lasted two days and almost 50 calls and threatening texts later. I spoke with a Sergeant from Newquay Police who advised to use the 999 service if necessary. He will receive a copy of this report today.

I tried through ORANGE to get any incoming calls and texts 'BARRED' from this mans number their only advice was to change my number which number is essential to my business.

Yesterday evening the calls and texts started again claiming that he was going to arrive and 'deal with me once and for all' This foul-mouthed man has caused great offence and his behavior was intimidating and most threatening.

In 21 years of running Car Boots Cornwall we have only resorted to reporting matters to the POLICE on one other occasion.

Geoff Camden Wiles

Note;
Since this report sent 10th July 2010 we have heard nothing more from this seller who is BARRED from all events run by CARBOOTSCORNWALL
Here is a man determined to bend the rules without respect to his fellow sellers and he undoubtedly helps in the decline of trust of Market Traders.

The law is simple, you may not sell wines & spirits or tobacco of any sort at our Car Boot Sales/Markets!

Dealers not to trust 2Posted: 23/10/2010
Dealers not to trust!

Dealer Number 2 Mr UGGLY!

Tuesday-Newquay Circus Fields-Car Boot Sale

Two weeks later another Market Trader Mr UGGLY arrives asking what happened to Simon, I explained briefly he had broken the rules and My UGGLY agrees with the wine man being BARRED!

Whilst collecting the rent Louise noticed this new market trader with quite a crowd around his stall and notices the he is selling ‘brand new’ UGG Boots which retail between £80.00 and £135.00
The price he is selling them for is £20.00 a pair. Trade is brisk as he guarantees they are the real UGG BOOTS all boxed-BARGAIN!

Lou inspects some of the stock and suspects they are FAKE! She called me on the mobile to warn me we may get complaints.

Within a few minutes 2 customers complain to me about the boots stating the stock he was selling was very poor UGG fakes, one woman had the ‘REAL UGGS’ on!

The trader assure me that the BOOTS he is selling are ‘factory seconds” and he sells them at Markets all the time. I advised him that I had two complaints and whilst I am not an expert myself I can only accept his word but he should accept that our customers had said they were going to report the matter to Trading Standards. At the end of the day he asked what I intended to do and I told him the matter had been reported by customers.

It would be confrontational for me to stop him selling because someone says an item is fake, what if I am wrong and have deprived the man of an income? However I did suspect the complaints were right and I well remember a trader last year selling similar crap type boots as the ‘fakes’ for £8.00 a pair, add a cardboard box print UGG BOOTS and hey presto increase the price to twenty quid!

By now I had named him My UGGLY on the Thursday he arrived to sell again and set up his stall with another back-up van bringing out the stock one pair at a time!

For those who do not know UGG Boots they are made in Australia and in an effort to find out about UGG Boots and the ‘seconds’ being sold I wrote to UGG BOOTS to but their reply came too late.

Mr UGGLY phoned before our next sale at Newquay and asked if he could sell again and I told him of the email from UGG BOOTS and he called me a liar!

Anyway, the bottom line is this. I was called to a stall by another well known and trusted trader and told the news that Trading Standards and the Police had caught up with him at Paignton and had raided UGGLY’S warehouse where 100s of FAKE UGGS and loads of ‘other gear’ were stored and the very latest I was told yesterday that one of our regular market traders was going ‘door to door’ selling these FAKE UGGS!

Falmouth Rugby Club Accident-11th June 2010Posted: 13/10/2010
MAJOR INCIDENT REPORT 11th June 2010-10-13
Falmouth Rugby Club FRIDAY 12.50 pm

On the weather forecast good weather was reported so it was assumed that we would be allowed on the pitch on a warm sunny day 11th June.

Louise who had damaged her eye two days earlier took time off to recuperate but I had adequate staffing with Becky, Hayley, John & Beth.

When I arrived to set up the ground for our CAR BOOT SALE I made a point of speaking with the club secretary to see if there could be a way in which we could use just the dead ball area for parking some of the sellers. He advised that the matter was not one for his decision so we would have to make do with the hard standing gravel grounds.

I parked up the sellers one lady driving a green SKODA was allocated her space she seemed agitated on arrival complaining about the time for her to set up and the space allocated was not enough. I told her to ‘calm down’ and to do the same as the other sellers and set her stall up. My own vehicle was parked within 4 yards of the SKODA next to the catering vehicles comprising of Burgher Van and an Ice-Cream trailer.

At 12.30 pm I checked all stalls and the majority of the sellers were ready, I sounded the HORN for the commencement of the CAR BOOT SALE. The sale was lively to start with over 1000 buyers attending.

At 12.50 pm a lady asked me for one of our books with times and dates and I opened the car door to get the book and suddenly I heard several loud screams and shouts of ‘help’ from ladies, I turned to witness the SKODA car had lurched forward onto 7-8 buyers who were looking at items for sale displayed on the ground in front of the SKODA.

The car was lying on top of the buyers the engine was revving and several people tried to push the car back to no avail. Paul from LTC catering got into the car to attempt to turn the engine off, eventually the car was lifted off the injured ladies and the emergency services were called.

It seems that the driver of the SKODA had left her car in gear with the handbrake off and she left the keys were in the ignition. At 12.50 pm she decided to close the windows turned the key on and the car lurched forward crushing the casualties.

8 ladies attended hospital and amongst the injured was Candice Collins who was six months pregnant, we have recently heard Candice has given birth and mother and baby are doing well.

Special thanks to all our customers who helped and full praise to the emergency services and paramedics who attended to our customers. PC Andy Mulhern was a credit to the Police in the most understanding way in which he conducted his enquiries.

Several witnesses were most helpful but it should go on record that the incident could have been worse if it was for the prompt action and help from the staff of LTC Catering Kelly, Michelle and Paul. Thank you!

I have spoken to all of the injured recently, it is obvious they have suffered pains and shock but I am pleased to report there are no serious injuries caused to our customers.

The problem we all have to suffer is the ‘flash backs’ in hearing the desperate screams of the injured ladies as they lay under the trapped under this vehicle.

The driver of the SKODA through her own negligence caused this accident, she was questioned by the Police and breathalysed, and the result was clean therefore there were no charges.

Some of the injured persons are dealing with their own Solicitors to claim loss of earnings and for their injuries.

We have known most of the injured persons for many years who are regular visitors to the Car Boot Sales at Falmouth Rugby Club since 1989 they are all nice people we love them all!

This incident does bring into question the safety of our customers, but for the fact that we were NOT ALLOWED on the pitch dead ball area this accident could not and would not have happened.
