GOSSIP TIME….Dear Marge….
Apologies for late editions to Geoff Says but here we go with lots of gossip! The weather over the last few weeks has played absolute havoc with our business and checking through the diary we have lost 47 Car Boot Sales this year so far, last year was a total of 37 RAINED OFF events so I am reluctant to admit the total for 2012 could reach up to 75 events that have had to be cancelled. It is no fun seeing the start of our sales where everyone is trading briskly only to suffer absolute downpours of rain like Tuesday and Thursday causing near chaos as everyone strives to be the first out of the gates and HOME! It never fails to amaze me how many know-alls mostly tourists but always MEN decide it’s time to interfere with how we are dealing with the situation especially when there are up to 750 vehicles churning up the fields to depart in haste. I am proud of my teams they know their jobs and like me they get severely pissed off when the minority Emmet’s become loud mouthed with advice “You should do this” and “You should do that” and “who’s in charge of this shambles” and “you’re going to lose a lot of business because if this” then the ‘F word’ is introduced to emphasise their stupidity without knowledge!
I don’t mean to be rude to our cherished tourists and holiday-makers but I would ask some of the lovely mums and wives to control their men like the Cornish women do my lovers! We are not allowed an opinion here we do as we are told because it make for a peaceful life all round! I enjoy talking to the visitors some returning year after year and I am amazed and chuffed by the amount of them who want to move to CORNWALL and live here permanently! I can understand why, we moved here nearly 25 years ago it is a lovely country it breeds happiness, the Cornish are nice people and the thousands of people who come to our events make it a happy COMMUNITY!
LANHYDROCK!
We have been to this fabulous location several times over recent weeks but the site is still suffering from the heavy rains particularly over the last 15 weeks. The grounds are still not suitable for our traffic so I am unable to say when our start date will be but hopefully we do not have to postpone to 2013
LONG ROCK!
We attended a site meeting yesterday evening and are pleased with the ground conditions despite the weather, there is a lot of work to be done hopefully we can advise in two weeks the start date however we seriously need at least 5 days of decent weather to ‘dry out’ the grasslands 12 acres location. At last we have a Landlord who leaves us to do our job and has confidence in our abilities. GUESS what? We have a Lady Landlord! We have met some B’stard men Landlords over the years; well one in particular…………………….Long Rock will be a success and we are delighted to be in PENZANCE as we head towards our 25th Year running CAR BOOTS CORNWALL.
HARD STANDING!
We are looking at a very large site this week which has a concrete/tarmac hard standing surface and would be brilliant particularly during the winter when all of our seasonal grassed locations are closed. If you know of any hard standing locations Car Parks or any large outbuildings or stores that could be used for ‘WINTER CAR BOOTS” you could earn yourself £500.00 reward if we start Car Boot Sales recommended by you! The couple who recommended Long Rock will get £500.00 reward on the first CAR BOOT there.
PUBLICITY and ADVERTISING
Last year I decided against advertising any of our Car Boot Sales in newspapers due to the high costs in particular The West Briton. I doubted the value of such adverts. My decision has been a brilliant success but for the crap weather we would be well over targets at all locations so if you advertise in the papers look at what you are spending and how many customers actually come from a ‘widgy’ advert in the local rag! We are so fortunate because it is our customer’s buyers and sellers who spread the word about our COMMUNITY CAR BOOTS and Marge of course plus all the wonderful women who bring their husbands and lovers JUST TO CARRY THE SHOPPING! Hah! Thank you my lovers! Proper Job!!
LATEST!
I will cover the story of TRADING STANDARDS visit to Newquay Circus Fields where they confiscated an entire stock of fake SUPER-DRY clothing tomorrow!
