What this Landlord has done is Constructive Eviction!!

Our humiliation and fury was complete all witnessed by many regulars who had heard “this is your last week” the whole incident went viral around the Car Boot Sales with us taking 30 phone calls as the gossip went around but wanting to know what is going to happen next season. We have worked hard at Mitchell building up the trust of multi thousands of buyers and sellers for our Car Boot Sales but there is no way in which we can allow this type of behaviour towards us and our business and our customers so we urgently needed to find another location.

We were advised by a couple of local farmers to speak with the owners of TRETHVAS FARM directly opposite the road. Lou and I met with the Landlords who were a breath of fresh air compared to the 11 hard years at ‘Mitchell’s Looney Leggoland’ they agreed we could transfer our business to their farm. I personally told Leggo we were not prepared to carry on at his farmland with his gross interference into the way in which my teams conducted our business and that as Landlord he had conducted himself towards our customers and our business in a disgusting fashion. I followed up with a letter.

Leggo had got exactly as he had planned over the years, to get rid of Car Boots Cornwall and to ‘steal our community business’ and run the sales himself planning to open at the same time as TRETHVAS FARM which flies in the face of his false concerns for traffic build up on the dual carriageway!!
Lou and I have worked with this background of stress and abuse but we had built Mitchell up to be the best of all the Car Boots Cornwall locations, our reputation has been built up with fairness at our sales to all concerned buyers and sellers alike. We both accept there are enemies to our tough but fair rules, we are for the majority of the Community who delight in our sales. Leggo was stunned about our success at MITCHELL and over the years he planned to take our Car Boot over so went about with this ridiculous plan to wear our enthusiasm down with his constant mithering and moaning using ‘Madam Why’ to report tittle-tattle, he even recruited a local Parish Councillor to cause trouble by complaining to the St Newlyn East Parish Council about our activities.
We removed all of the barriers and signs from Looney Leggo Land to across the road Trethvas Farm, once we had taken the big front of the field sign down Looney Leggo replaced it with a similar sign (using our corporate identity) but determined to steal our business, I tried to reason with him on the phone and said to both him and his missus “So you are going to steal our business”? They both said YES we are!

“Quite right Leggo you are the Landlord at Mitchell but you do not own CAR BOOTS CORNWALL which is where you went wrong from day one, you have acted in a disgusting manner to ourselves our customers and to your neighbours and;

“I demand that you give any of your BUYERS and certainly ‘the locals’ free admission as a gesture of my disgust at your tactics” seriously Leggo ask yourself are you really a fit person to run such public events and do you really need the money? You are aware of the danger of running two Car Boot Sales in Mitchell, without any thoughts to PUBLIC SAFETY!

As a gesture of goodwill I would ask all sellers and buyers who shown loyalty to us for many years to forget Looney Leggoland and come across the road to our new larger and safer venue where all of our customers will be covered with our Full Public Liability Insurance and a qualified team at our superb new location and with new Landlords Mo & James.
Come to our CAR BOOTS CORNWALL in MITCHELL at TRETHVAS FARM on SATURDAYS at 12.00 noon to sell or to buy in the knowledge that we WILL get the crowds of sellers for loads of stunning BARGAINS for our great crowds of buyers and thank you all for your loyal support since 1989.
