Dear Car Boots Cornwall, I have just read the email regarding the dog ban & i must say WHAT TOOK YOU SO LONG !!!
I am a dog lover & until recently a dog owner my dog went every where with me including your car boot sales (twice) she did not enjoy it & if it hadn’t been for the sad eyes she would not have gone at all, she was a GSD & could cope with the vast number of people but it is not fair on the lots of little dogs that are dragged up & down the aisles in danger of being trod on let alone the big dogs trying to have ago it each other all panting from the heat in summer, it always amazed me why people would put their pets through this.
Just leave them at home where they are safe, as for holiday makers we had to take it in turns staying with our dog when we went on holiday while the other had a look around never leaving her in the car.
It is also NOT your job to pick up after lazy owners if you did no one would pick up they would say “let the staff do it it’s what they are paid for”, & why should you provide bags this is down to the owners not you or any other venue to provide.
Morning Geoff and Lou,
What a strange email you had about dogs!
Didn’t they read the reason why they won’t be allowed at Mitchell? Nothing to do with poo as I recall.
In my opinion dogs are a pest at Carboots as they get under my feet and I’m forever having to step over them and their leads. Also some of them seem to be in permanent attack mode when other dogs are around.
Why should you provide bags for dog owners? Whatever next!!!
Oh well, gave me a laugh, back on with my work now!
Love Ann. x
I agree with most of the points raised in this email however I have only known one dog to get out of a car window but there have been several people who walk around aimlessly with their dog (no lead-no collar) who is somewhere else in the field and could pose a threat to neighbouring farmland………… On Sunday I will answer some of the emails but please if you do wish to contribute or text 078 078 078 88 I will not publish your full name nor email address unless you ask me. More views please! Geoff X

Hi Geoff, re dogs at your boot sales. Its obviously a hard one for you and I can see both sides of it. I bring a dog when I sell and I have also had dogs weeing on stock.
When buying I only ever bring a dog to go round after the rush. It simply isn’t fair on them to be dragged around and ignored while their owners hunt for bargains. Small dogs in particular must find it very hard to be amongst a forest of feet.
The thinking behind the ban is flawed unless you are going to ban dogs in cars full stop. It is far more likely that a dog will escape from a car window to possibly chase livestock than they are to get free while walking round on the lead. More likely, as on a hot day windows will need to be wider open.
It won’t stop me coming to buy on occasion but it will stop me from selling—not a huge loss but I may be one of several. Will you be turning away sellers with dogs in cars?
It would probably have been easier if you hadn’t already mentioned the ban as an option, people will feel that this is the beginning of a ban at all your sales.
I don’t know what the answer is but either way you are going to upset a number of people both now and during the sales. It will make for an unpleasant feel at the sales I think.
This very rude email arrived in our JUNK MAIL which is where it belongs. However I will reply in due course but I would ask for other opinions please to

Dear Cornwall Car boots,
I am very upset, like I’m sure every dog owner will be, that you have decided to ban dogs at your car boot grounds. Will Newquay also be included??? I have always been a dog owner and I have never failed to pick up my dogs poo. Yes some people do not pick their dog poo up and that therefore spoils it for anyone else. But surely you are a business. It is your responsibility to see the straight forward running of your car boots. If you can’t then you surely shouldn’t be running car boots. Shouldn’t your staff be out and about on your fields enforcing the pick up your poo policy??? And shouldn’t your staff be out and about the fields ensuring that poo is picked up from those who have got through the nets and, the fields are kept clean and poo free for visitors. What stops your staff from having a poo scoop and a bag and ensuring your fields are kept clean. Why should visitors that abide by the law by picking up their dogs poo be discriminated and victimised against because others don’t. I have often seen your staff sitting in the van. Buying items off stores. Doing nothing when they should be doing their jobs. Why can’t you put up signs telling dog owners to pick up their dogs poo. I’ve never seen any!! If they don’t and are seen then ban them from your car boots. This consequence should also be clearly signed around your car boot. Also I would like to point out there are no bins for dog poo around any of your car boot sites. I always take mine back to the car. If you even try to put dog poo bags in the catering bins you get cussed. Why can’t you have proper dog poo bins at your car boots??? No dog poo bins/no dog poo in catering bins. How are dog owners meant to pick up their dog poo when your car boots don’t provide the proper bins to dispose of it? Like I said I take my dogs poo back to the car but it stinks my car out afterwards! Why can’t 1 or 2 poo bags be given out at the gate to dog owners as part of your pick up your poo scheme. They cost £1 for 50 in the pound shop. You are a business and you are making a lot of money from us sellers and buyers. A couple of pound is nothing to ensure your business is taking responsibility for the smooth running of your car boots. To ensure that all your visitors are kept happy and not just the ones without dogs.
I have been coming to your car boots for years. Friends and family also come to your car boots i.e. Newquay, Mitchell, Truro etc. We all own dogs and we have all come both as sellers and buyers with our dogs. Even my family that come to Newquay from up north on holiday bring their dogs and come to your car boot sales. To all dog owners they mean the world to us and we don’t just leave them behind.
What’s going to happen to holiday makers that bring their dogs?? Have they got to leave their dogs in a tent or caravan while they come to your car boot?? I don’t think the holiday camps will be very happy or even allow this in case of damage! No dog, no carboot.
What’s going to happen if someone brings their dog to your car boot and is refused entry??? Leave the dog in the car to die from over heating!! Whose fault will that be?? You may say the owner but, I don’t think the owner will see it that way when seeking legal advice!
I would also like to ask will this ban include Guide Dogs? Because I hate to inform you; all dogs poo!! And I can’t see a disabled lady or man being able to bend down and pick up their dogs poo. Yet they are dependent on their dog. No dog. No Car boot.
Also what about young mothers who change their babies and then dump the nappy and nappy bag on the fields or in the bushes?? Because I have seen it. Will they be banned next??
I have seen a lot of dog owners come to your car boots. Some I know, some I don’t. Both your Buyers and Sellers bring their dogs to your car boots. I don’t think they will be happy about the new policy of no dogs. I have seen many a seller selling with their dogs. No dog. No car boot.
All my friends and family and people I know in and around Newquay are deeply upset regarding this decision your car boots are taking. It’s not that easy to just leave your dog at home. Some dogs destroy the house, some dogs cry and howl. Some dogs like mine have separation anxiety disorder and can’t be left. I have always seen Newquay has a dog friendly town but obviously this is changing.
Our dogs; mine, my friends, my family mean the world to us. They are family and they go everywhere with us. This I’m sure will be the same to all dog owners. No Dogs. No Car boot. I personally wouldn’t leave my dog full stop. And I wouldn’t pay 50p to come to any of your car boots without my dog. I’m sure I won’t be the only one complaining in the coming months when they realise your new no dog policy. I feel that this new no dogs policy is only an easy way of dealing with a problem. Ban dogs therefore staff have no extra work and Cornwall Car Boots don’t have to fork out any money i.e. dog poo bins, dog poo bags, signs, dog poo pick up equipment for staff, etc, to enforce the pick up your dogs poo policy. I’m not going to mention extra staff because if your staff even worked you wouldn’t need any extra (even their car parking management skills are shambolic both in the carpark and on the selling field i.e. Old Mitchell field was ridiculous. No organisation what so ever) By banning dogs it’s just an easy way out without spending money!! For me and my friends and family it’s easy. Without our dogs. You loose our business and the money we would have brought to your car boot. I’m sure other dog owners will feel the same and I’m sure you will see a fall in your numbers and money you make from your car boots over the summer.
Welcome back, I do not apologise for the fact that this column has been missing for a while we have had other important matters to deal with but it is interesting to hear all the various bits of gossip starting with dear Marge who told me last week that HAYLE Rugby Club will not start their Car Boot Sales because they have no-one to run them!
This news was told to Marge by dear old Jim who readers will remember used to help park cars at Falmouth with us many years ago. Now, I don’t know what the truth is about Hayle closing down but I would not mind betting that Jim is ‘winding Marge up a bit’ because he knows Marge and I get on well together. Anyway I wrote to Hayle Rugby Club offering the services of yours truly to run their Sunday morning Car Boot Sales also to introduce our 5 ***** Star Car Boots Cornwall Catering to the Hayle Car Boot Sales.
A further rumour is that LTC Catering are in partnership with Car Boots Cornwall which is a total LOBs!
There are NO circumstances that Car Boots Cornwall would work alongside LTC again who were told in 2011 that we would be doing our own Catering. Deal with it!
We gave other newcomers to the business the opportunity to offer our customers a greater variation of foods instead of monopolistic catering.
The introduction of our catering has been very successful with at least 5 other new caterers given the chance to provide a wide variety of foods for our customers besides the traditional Car Boot Burgers & Hot Dogs etc.
DOGS!!
Dogs are BANNED from the new Car Boot location at MITCHELL there is nearby farming of sheep and horses so TRETHVAS FARM is DOG-FREE!
DOGS!!
Dogs are allowed at Truro City Cattle Market but they are BANNED from the CATTLE or SHEEP PENS if the Car Boot Sales are held under cover.
DOGS are allowed at The Royal Cornwall Showground but must be on a lead!
START DATES!
It is too early to advise of our start dates as meetings have to be held with Landlords to decide about ground conditions as most of our locations are grass field sites.
During our time away from Cornwall our Car Boot Sales will be run by Amelia at TRURO on Sundays at 1.30pm and at PAR from January 15th at 12.00 noon.
Please note all Gold Passes expired today 31st December 2014 only 7 will be reissued over the next few weeks to Lady customers for their loyalty to CBC over many years!!
PLEASE NOTE: Decisions are being made regarding the BAN of dogs at some of our locations due to the large volume of complaints regarding owners allowing their dogs to crap on the fields without the owners responsibly using POO BAGS; More details to follow later.
Hi,
I hope you don’t mind me contacting you. I am working at September Films and we are in production with the ITV game show Celebrity Squares. Hosted by stage and screen star Warwick Davis (Extras, Life’s Too Short, Star Wars and the Harry Potter film series) the show will be returning to TV screens very soon for a second series.
Celebrity Squares is a fun and exciting game show where two lucky contestants have the opportunity to win huge cash prizes with the help of a star-studded line-up.
The game is simple – it’s noughts and crosses with a celebrity twist. We have nine boxes and inside each box is a different celebrity who answers questions. All you have to do is ‘agree’ or ‘disagree’ with the celebrity’s answer. If you are correct you win that square – and three in a row means a cash prize!
This is a brilliantly fun game which anybody can play! We are currently looking for contestants to take part in the show and we would appreciate your help in circulating our information. I have attached a poster and would be grateful if you could display this in your place of work or forward my email to your colleagues, family or friends. Please let me know if this may be possible.

Why not sort out all your selling items and have a grand 50p any item stall? If you decide to you will qualify for 50% off your selling price and you can borrow our boards to advertise your sale. One of our recent 50p sellers took over £140.00 on their stall and they were delighted!
When you arrive on Saturday at TRURO to sell please advise any one of our team and we will lend you these boards for the 12.00 noon sale this SATURDAY 6th December 2014
Just short of 100 sellers and loads of buyers made this day the busiest at TRURO with thousands of bargains and lots of very happy buyers and sellers. The BBC actually got their forecast right last weekend which is a minor miracle for them!
3 sellers took over £300.00 (oh yes they did)
and buyers spent well many of them buying kids toys (some brand new still in original boxes) which is a great way to save money especially when you look at the prices in the toy shops.
One lucky buyer bought for a fiver a boxed GOLD pen and pencil set in immaculate condition probably worth up to £200.00 ! What a BARGAIN!!
