Dear Geoff

I hope you are well.

I think my colleague may have spoken to you in the past regarding previous productions and I wondered if you may be able to help again?

I am hoping you may be able to help publicise a new show we are in production of for Channel 4.

We are looking for people to take part in a new series and I would be grateful if you could display the attached poster on any intranet or web bulletin board and/or if possible attach to any suitable noticeboards. If you would rather I sent a copy through the post — that is no problem.

Please free to pass on the details to anyone who you think may be interested.

Also I wonder if it may be possible at some point for us to come down to one of the boot sales and give out some flyers?

Many thanks in advance for all your help and my apologies if this isn’t of interest.

Best regards, Katie

ARE YOU OBSESSED WITH CLEANING?

OR IS YOUR HOME MORE OF A HOVEL?

Do you spend hours a day dusting, polishing and vacuuming the house? Does arranging your socks in colour order give you a buzz? Do you believe that if it’s not a right angle — it’s the wrong angle?

OR — Are you sick of living in squalor? Would you like our cleaning crew to go where no mop has gone before? We are looking for the UK’s domestically challenged households to clean up their acts.

Channel 4 is looking for people whose love of cleaning or tidying has reached the point of obsession and people whose home need a serious spring clean for an exciting new series.

If you’d like your house to go from horrific to heavenly or if you are seriously cleaning obsessed, then please get in contact about this exciting new primetime show! The gloves are on…

HUSMP results!

WOW we will have to do this again because there has been so much enthusiasm for you lovely ladies to show me your PUSSIES!
First there was MARGE who go it completely wrong by offering “Have you seen my PURSE” poor soul she is soo virginal at times but being a well bred young lady she had no idea of the nickname of PUSSY or FAIRY!
We had emails and texts galore from Annie who told me she would show me a picture of her FAT pussy see enclosed…..SUE got it right, Tricia got it right……Anon from Penryn Sands got it right but the best reply was from Mr & Mrs Over-load who ate all their meals several times a day and were on holiday at HENDRA! On Saturday the waddled up to me saying are you Geoff?
They had seen the competition and entered into the spirit of things by claiming the £3.00 off voucher by her declaring’ I know what you mean but I haven’t seen my pussy for years’ to which he added ‘and I haven’t seen my Willy for years either but we still have great fun together’! They then went into a ‘BELLY LAUGH’ that seemed to rumble forever, the mind boggles.
Others who got it right Vera, Susane, posh Anne, Ann, Mildred, Rita of big bum fame and Laura who cheated because Dennis told her the answer!
GREAT FUN but then I bet we get complaints!
Which reminds me a drunk walked out of this pub in Falmouth and was sick all over this little dog, he looked down at the dog and said’I dont remember eating that’

It is definately NOT TRUE that Louise and I are money laundering by sending all of our earnings (especially this last month) from Car Boot Sales to BARBADOS because we are having a VILLA built out there!
What a load of bollards! For the record there is no-where better to live than CORNWALL, we love it here and have no intention of living anywhere else but……….we do have a half claim to 70,000 acres in St Kitts and its the worth multi MILLIONS but our English solicitor warns ‘Even if you won the claim they would sooner SHOOT you than pay you’ Yup that’s about right in the Caribbean with Prime Minister and corrupt lawyers depriving citizens of their lawful rights to lands in the Caribbean!

That rumour was put around by The Artful Dodger months ago when he was the Assistant to Mr Liar whose efforts to run a Boot Sale at Dairyland failed miserably! Here we have a identical pair who ‘open their mouths and let the wind blow their tongues around’ In fact the last time I saw two mouths like theirs they had HOOKS in them!

Today’s moan at KIM who made a great effort over at PADSTOW and ran the Car Boot Sale at 12.00 noon when Rosudgeon had cancelled, she was told Geoff cancelled the Car Boot at Mitchell which is absolute baloney it was cancelled by the LANDLORD and for the benefit of Mr Thickie and Ben Down you got it wrong again! LANDLORD means he owns the lands and if he says the CAR BOOT is CANCELLED its his land and his rights so its cancelled! AMEN!!
Life is like a hair on a toilet seat-you soon get PISSED OFF!!

No STUDENT cakes please!

Reminder; you must not sell food & cakes! A look back at 2003 updated July 2012
It is not a good idea to think ‘I will bake some cakes to sell at the Car Boot Sale because we will not let you! Over last weekend I had to stop 2 sellers from selling what looked like quite nice cakes but without showing us your FOOD HANDLING CERTIFICATE & Public Liability Insurance evidence and we will need copies for our files. WE must know the sellers who have to be approved by ourselves and in most cases the TRADING STANDARDS & the Health Authorities carry out checks and inspections at the homes of people authorised to sell at our sales.
LTC Catering/Roseworthy Farms are our only authorised caterers.

Several years ago at Falmouth Rugby Club it was end of term for the students each year they use our Car Boots to get rid of unwanted items. We had a complaint about ‘suspect looking cakes’ being sold by one group of 4 students selling up! The three open brown cardboard boxes were displaying fairy cakes of a different nature double in size and looking like YUCK with hundreds and thousands melting in the sun and sliding into messy chocolate goo on the cardboard plates.
“Who made these” We all did last night with the stuff left in the cupboards otherwise we would have thrown it out, was the reply. “Well you are not selling them here they look dreadful are you trying to kill off my customers with the cakes they are sweating and melting in the sun” With a good sense of humour they reluctantly took the offending cakes off their stall.
At the end of the sale John told me some students (the same 4)as they were leaving said they had a great time and handed me three cakes saying “Give these to the BALD bloke” Cheeky sods! (I nearly kept them because I knew Mother-in-Law was due a visit)
We love the students but it’s great when they all go for their holidays and return after their break. When they come back they are cash rich from bleeding their parents dry which is the time to be nice and call them Sir & Madam because they spend well but when they are ‘hard up’ it is amazing some of the absolute CRAP they would try to sell to us in our second hand shop Dig & Delve-Falmouth in the good old days.

Our experiences with the students over the years has been favourable they have always shown respect to us and our customers at the Car Boot Sales where they have been understandably tight fisted in their spending money, long pockets-short arms known as ‘an impediment in their reach’ but they are a great crowd. Thank you…..Geoff & Lou….x

MABE Memories!

Over 15 years ago I took Lou to MABE on the crappiest day of the year with blinding winds and rains and we climbed over the gates to look at the huge fields to see if they would be suitable for Car Boot Sales! She thought that I was ‘absolutely mad’ to contemplate the idea but I had been to the same grounds earlier in the year to study the success of MABE SHINDIG where over 12,000 people had attended. My thoughts if they can get that amount of people then I could get at least a few hundred on a weekly basis so let’s give the Landlord a call and put the idea to him. His immediate reply was ‘I don’t want any Car Boot Sales on my land’ asking him ‘WHY’ he staggered me by saying that most of the stuff sold at Car Boot Sales was stolen! He said there would be little point in meeting because he was not interested, with a bit of ‘bull-shit from me I met him at his farm house and we did a ‘handshake deal’ to ‘give it a try.

You all know the success that MABE has become it is a huge part in people’s lives and like a lot of our customers we have some fantastic memories of the buyers and sellers. In 1998 Peter and Pam who live near Carmon Downs joined selling at our Car Boot Sales farm fresh fruit and vegetable, plants, flowers and seedlings all grown on their smallholding farm by Peter. Pam was a very large woman who was somewhat disabled by her size and whilst she had a warped sense of humour she quite often got offensive in her dealings with people mainly driven by the pains she suffered! Peter on the other hand was a mild mannered pleasant gentleman who would not retaliate to some of Pam’s jibes and if she was offensive to anyone he pretended not to hear.

On arriving at MABE one Sunday Peter pulled into his usual spot just by the gate and prepared to set up his stall. Pam had been very rude to me the previous Friday at Falmouth so I did not do my usual courtesy job of helping her out of the van. Phyllis a neighbouring seller asked Peter ‘Where is Pam’ “Oh hers in the van” A few minutes later Phyllis decided to look for Pam only to discover she had fallen out of the van into the ditch and was so large she was almost wedged into the soggy earth. Phyllis went to tell Peter who looked at his wife in the ditch then carried on setting up his stall so Phyllis came to tell me ‘Pam is in the ditch’
“What do you expect me to do Phyllis” I asked as I accompanied her to view the scene. All 20 plus stone of Pam was writhing and wriggling as she turned and rolled from right to left but getting nowhere so I asked Peter ‘What shall we do’ “Leave her there-her will get out in the end” so he carried on serving his customers whilst his out of view wife struggled to prevent herself becoming a mud pie! The view was unbelievable Phyllis and I could not contain our amusement although Pam did not share our fun at the time, but to see this ‘not a pretty sight for sore eyes’ very rude lady bearing all was a justified reward for her rudeness to me and others, I had my job to do so I returned to parking cars wondering how to get her out of the ditch but what annoyed me most was I had left my camera at home! Imagine!!

Ten minutes later Phyllis came to say ‘Pam is still in the ditch what can we do’? “Phyllis I have been on to MAC’SALVORS and they are refusing to turn out” whereby Phyllis burst out laughing almst losing control of her bladder! OMG! To her credit Pam saw the funny side the 3 of us tried to pull her free to howls from her and ‘howls of laughter’ from Phyllis and me we rocked her backwards and forwards and eventually Pam was released from the ditch. Many years after her death Peter and I discussed the old days and ‘the ditch’ incident was mentioned to which we both had a good laugh! Pam was a naughty outspoken lady at times but they dearly loved each other and their family were so important to them both. Her antics kept the gossip alive, sad that it is they are both gone they were two of ‘Cornwall’s finest characters’ and we miss them, well I miss Peter!

Phyllis is now 84 years old still has a brilliant sense of humour and comes to our sales at MABE, FALMOUTH & Truro and I know she will thoroughly enjoy this recap of the early years at MABE!
Note; There is a part 2 of this story which is hilarious but you will have to wait for the 2013 booklet!

Sorry about the crap weather we have been having over recent weeks, it has been no good to anyone in our business with up to 2000 people not being able to sell and thousands of buyers who have stayed at home due to the rained off Car Boot Sales. With Saturdays forecast we are CERTAIN to go ahead at TRURO Cattle Market and we can only hope that MITCHELL will not be affected by the promised rains.
We are confident MABE will be ok on SUNDAY at 1.30 pm I was on site today and the grounds were looking good, it is 4 weeks since we were last at this popular location!
It is very hard times for all of our buyers and sellers and the thousands of tourists who regularly come to Cornwall for their holidays and enjoy our Car Boot Sales….Lets hope the new month will bring some sunshine and dry days my lovers….We never used to have this sort of weather with LABOUR!
Anyway, here is a picture to cheer you up a bit, the first person to come and tell me what HUSMP means I will give them a £3.00 off voucher for their next Car Boot! Knowing my luck it will be Phylis but it could be Annie!!
