One of our regular sellers over the past couple of years is Lynne who decided she wanted to have full double glazing to her house but how to pay for it. She knew it was time to down-size so went through the entire house deciding to sell some of the unwanted household items clothes etc at our Car Boot Sales. Over the next few months she put all of her takings into a box to pay for the windows! Read on….

hi geoff re our conversation at the boot sale today i am sending you the before and after pics of the house –
i saved the deposit for the windows from attending your bootsales at the school, mitchel and circus fields by selling unwanted items. every penny i made i saved in envelopes and put in safe until i had made the deposit to have them fitted now i will be continuing to attend your bootsales to achieve the total amount to pay it all off.
many thanks lynne

Could this be TRUE or a HOAX!

Nice customer of ours was telling me about the day he bought a plane for a fiver at Truro which he wanted for his collection. To see how much he had saved he looked onto eBay and was STUNNED at the asking price on the identical plane he had just bought!
Could this be TRUE or is it a HOAX? 2 pictures?
I will have to ask Marge!
Yesterday instead of asking Lou her opinion I asked Marge at Truro ‘Should we go ahead at ahead at MITCHELL this afternoon’ Immediately she said “Oh Yes” and history was made. Thanks Marge I do love decisive women!

What a CRAP week!

The weather has been far from kind to our Car Boot Sales and I can only apologise for those desperate to sell to earn some dosh or get some bargains! One lady seller wrote to tell me ‘I need to earn lots of DOSH darling about £1000.00 would be ideal’ DREAM ON Darling!

Last SUNDAY as most booters know was like a nightmare with over 100 sellers dwindling down to 14 and then nothing all because of the the pissing rain!
We will take no chances this week because we will have 4 options to consider!
Option 1.If it does not rain near the start time we will hold the sale at MABE.
Option 2. If it does rain around the start time we would hold the sale in TRURO.
Option 3. To be decided!
Option 4. Dont get up!

Due to the constant rain and forecast for today and in the interest of the grounds at Newquay Circus Fields we have decided to CANCEL the event! Sorry to all concerned and we promise to honour the deposits made over the next TWO WEEKS only at the Circus Fields-Newquay!

TODAY we will hold a Car Boot Sale in TRURO CITY CATTLE MARKET at 1.30 pm in the under cover CATTLE PENS!

The problem is that even if the rain stopped the impact of up to 1000 cars onto the Circus Fields would cause damage to the grounds for the rest of the season for OUR CAR BOOTS and the annual CIRCUS! We are sorry for any inconvenience caused and our thoughts go to The Royal Cornwall’s annual show where multi-thousands of pounds is at stake for a successful show under the weather conditions.

My thanks to both Landlords RICHARD at Newquay and Bob at Truro Cattle Market for their co-operation!

See you this afternoon at 1.30 pm!

I was told mabe carboot was defiantly on as they have had NO RAIN!!! only to dive an hour to be told it was not on, i called again to have some horrible women on the phone who has no customer service skills at all to tell me that they have had horrible drizzly rain to contend with. I know this was not the case as we turned up to find the food trailers all set up ready and to have a couple of spits on the window screen and the road, grass and pavement dry!!!!

Myself and my friend who drove form st Austell are not very happy at this. I know u have weather to contend with but the lack of untruth full information to be a little lack luster and the attitude of the person answering the phone to be rude. If this person is yourself then apologies but this is the truth and the complaint I would Like to pass forward

Regards

Hello Joanne,

We do not cancel Car Boot Sale easilly however the weather conditions were bad enough for most of the sellers and buyers to leave the queues and drive home. The remaining sellers were given a half price voucher towards their next visit hopefully in better weather. I am sorry for the inconvenience caused to hundreds of people however the rain/drizzle in all the outlying districts to MABE was the deciding factor.

My wife answered all calls and if she was abrupt or rude in your opinion it certainly was not her intention and contrary to her popular public relations status since we were established in 1989

Most of the other Car Boot Sales including Withiel and St Austell were cancelled due to weather condition of which none of us have any control.

Regards,

Geoff Camden Wiles

Lovely day but full of strong breezes as most people who decided its shorts and short sleeve T shirts weather and they were sadly mistaken. The sale had been going well but about 2.30pm it started getting very cold and the underclad people all decided its time to go home with hundreds of cars wanting to leave at the same time.
Trouble is tempers flared up and one ignorant old sod decided he would try to get out before his turn and drove his car at three ladies of our team Becky Rachel and Jackie. Despite requests for him to wait his car was revving against them but they stood firm! Other departing customers wanted to yank the old fool out of his car then he denied trying to RAM them.
Supervisor ARLIN barred the man we did not get his name but Becky did get his picture and Rachel took note of his registration and vehicle details.
We never involve the Police but on this occasion we advised them of the incident. If you saw any of this and can confirm what happened I would appreciate an email from you please.
The vehicle a VAUXHALL Safari registration number KS 51 VRR and the Crime Reference number is 572 27-5-2012 also please see picture!

I get sick of the fact that it is always OLD GOATS who bully our teams and its never women who get offensive and threatening although last week I did encounter an agitated women who wanted to park in the front row because she had a bloody blue pass. I told her NO she could either have a refund or get out of the car and have a WALK the exercise would do her good! She then demanded to know the phone number of the BOSS and phoned to complain to me about the very rude old bloke!
Yes dear it was ME but I did’nt resort to swearing! She did! Naughty old girl!

But who was the lucky buyer of the day? Read on….

This is a TRUE story! Today MONDAY I met a local artist of repute Patrick Haughton (former Headmaster of Penryn School) who was preparing some of his pictures for an art exhibition to be held at the Art Showroom next door to the Royal Cornwall Museum in River Street, Truro.
He told me he had been to MABE the day before and had gone up to a stall where he instantly recognised a picture by the famous Sir Terry Frost for sale on one of the stalls. He asked the seller ‘How much is this picture’ and a man standing next to him said ‘I am sorry I have just bought it’
From further enquiries another dealer said he had also missed buying the picture but he was bold enough to ask the seller ‘How much did the picture sell for?’
‘I wanted £15.00 and he offered me £12.00 so I sold it to him’
There is absolutely NO DOUBT that this picture will sell between £3,000.00 and £5,000.00 at auction!
I feel sorry for Patrick because he wanted the picture for his own private collection but he was honest enough to admit the buyer was a cheeky but lucky sod!
