In 1989 the Falmouth Rugby Club asked us if we would be interested in runnning the existing Car Boot Sales as the club wanted new management for the popular weekly event and we took over the sales with immediate effect. On the day of our takeover the first person I met was JIM who introduced himself ‘I am Jim, I park cars for a FREE stall’ and I agreed to let him carry on with parking the sellers.

Because of my policy of not allowing anyone to buy before the Car Boot started and also insisting that all buyers get equal chance for the BARGAINS at the start on each sale. Jim did not like this policy as it spoiled his chance to buy from sellers as he was parking the cars depriving the other customers of a fair chance to buy. We fell out time and again the final straw being that Jim once again broke the rules buying before the start time causing customers to complain that I had different rules for the staff! BARRED!That was in the mid 1990s

On Saturday last a gentleman said “Do you remember that loud mouth cockney that you barred the one that used to park cars at Falmouth? I could have smacked him in the mouth the other day he was telling some people some bloody lies about you that I know are not true, he was telling everybody that you had lost MABE and MITCHELL!

I thanked the gent for telling me however I hear the same stupidiy every new season.
Jim was furious when I barred him and has tried to discredit my reputation with lies. Since he left I have built CARBOOTSCORNWALL up to 9 different locations and he could have done exactly the same as me!

I do not have a picture of Jim but if you go to Hayle just look for the most expensive “I am selling this for a friend” or “Its from my Uncle’s estate who recently died” stall and you can meet him Jim in person!

CARBOOTSCORNWALL is proud to announce that we will start Car Boot Sales in REDRUTH in June!

Stick that in your pipe and smoke it JIM!

Mitchell season started as a huge success taking into consideration it was cold and quite a lot of people told me that money was tight because they had spent up on fuel with this stupid governments ‘lets panic everyone into buying fuel’ idea. Loads and loads of bargains bought by some very happy customers. It was great to meet up with some of the regulars we have known over the 8/9 years at Mitchell. Although cold it was an enjoyable afternoon at Mitchell a firm favourite Car Boot Sale however it was not all happiness for two customers. The first one had a BRAND new expensive contract phone which he left on the roof of his car. He returned to collect the mobile but it was GONE we telephone the number but the phone had been turned off and probably now has a new sim card! The replacement cost to the unlucky but careless owner £425.00 !! Next gentleman to phone at 8.00pm says he had lost a valuable ring when he came to Mitchell. I told him nothing had been found but I had no objection if he want to go to the field to search. Nothing found so far, any enthusiasts in metal detection? We could share the spoils if you like! It seems amazing that on a lovely afternoon like today that the only complaints came from GRUMPY OLD SODS whinging on’where is she now’ and that we should BAN dogs!

A lot of men moaners seem to resent their wives getting amongst the stalls for BARGAINS and having a ‘good old natter’with neighbours or friends. I often get asked ‘where the hell is she now’? I say leave her alone she is enjoying herself this is HER TIME but still they GRUMP!

Then we get the DOG OWNERS who bring the dogs on leads drag them around the Car Boot and that is the dogs exercise for the day or weekend or even the week!
Today we had several complaints about DOGS! We dont mind the dogs coming to the Car Boot Sales but it is wrong not to use the fields at most of our Car Boot sales for the dogs to be walked and get some exercise yourselves!

Some idiot brought 4 dogs to TRURO today and stood posing with them at the gate its a CAR BOOT not a bloody DOG SHOW the main complaint of the afternoon came from a lady who was stunned when a dog cocked its leg and ‘peed’
(pissed) on her legs and open top flip flops (mmm nice warm YELLOW dog-pee) whilst she was looking at a stall!

You are on YELLOW CARDS DOGS we dont want to ban you but we certainly do not want to see blokes strutting around our car boots with large dogs on each hand like today! It must be an extension to their EGO! One woman moaned about a bloke with two large alsatian dogs she thought it was unreasonable and I agreed with her! ‘Bet he buys his underpants from Mothercare’ she quipped. ‘I dare you to say that to his face’ said Geoff.

Women can be so hurtful with words at times, but I love em all really! Well most of em!!

My mate Paul from Taunton Car Boots has just told us about today at his first Sunday Car Boot of the season. Only 50 sellers were expected and 408 turned up plus another 3000 cars bringing all the buyers. Lucky sod what could go wrong? Guess what!
They only had two PORTALOOS! OMG!!
Paul tells me their were loads of complaints “They really gave me ‘sh-t’ all afternoon” he said.
Does’nt that make you wanna clench your cheeks!!

RUSSELL!
We were told today by a close friend of Russell that he had been ordered to take a road test and unfortunately failed and his car was sold!
I hope he still comes to see us he could jog to the boot sale or better still cadge a lift!

Marge is back looking lovely and radient from her break and ready for the season, its amazing how many of the regulars are so looking forward to Mitchell and Newquay starting again.

Good spenders at Falmouth today I know of 6 sellers who took over £100.00 the lowest figure I heard was £6.00 but the lady seller had arrived 30 minutes late and the main bulk of buyers had gone!!

“OH Mother how could you”?

Last years Mothers Day the crowds thronged to the Truro Car Boot Sale which started at 1.30pm
I always walk around the stalls during the sale and chat to some of the sellers to see how they were doing.
I was standing at one stall being run by mother and daughter and overheard the daughter say to the mother “I just cannot believe you would and could have done that”
What have I done dear? “You have just sold that present that I bought you for Mothers Day”
Yes replied Mother but I have had it for years and I am reducing the clutter a bit!
“MOTHER, the daughter shouted I spent over £15.00 on that and you sold it for £2.00 and I gave it to your TODAY!
BINGO!
I know that sounds insensitive but I feel sorry for Mother because I would probably do exactly the same and not know until I received a deserved kick in the nuts from Lou but if you sit and think it over its bloody hilarious really!

Louise often tells me about some of the arguements and rows at the stalls when collecting the rents mainly through friends selling presents given by the other person they are selling with.
Makes for a GREAT atmosphere darlings!
Imagine the journey home.

Saturdays Gossip!

The sweetie man is back but we cant find Bubbles to tell her. Just for a bit of harmless fun when they both do a Car Boot on the same day it would be nice to put them as neighbours again!

‘Got any Jewelry Luv’ was picked on today when I said it was time we found a maid to share his love and life!
My mate Marge said ‘Better off to get a dog they are more loyal and they dont answer back’

I think Mildred has a soft spot for him and wants to get involved in giving him a makeover!
She say she want to do the ‘final’ touches for him! You what!
Any offers!
Geoff

GOSSIP!

Great Sunday with over 2500 people in attendance and loads of BARGAINS!

We ask all buyers to arrive EARLY to avoid traffic delays please.

Cannot give you dates to the start of the season some of the grounds are very wet, as soon as I know it will go into this site.

PORTH is looking good however there is some opposition from a neighbour. When we first looked at PORTH we did a survey and the locals were most happy to support a COMMUNITY Car Boot Sale at a superb location.

Tretharis School could well be our winter indoor venue in Newquay.

Return to FLAMBARDS negotiations. Now that FLAMBARDS share the main entrance with SAINSBURYS I strongly believe HELSTON deserves a good Car Boot Sale at a brilliant location.

In the early years.

Loads of our regulars who been with us for the 23 years we have been established will remember the mid 90s when we first started Car Boots at Truro Cattle Market.

Market Traders had a field day selling all the fakes and copies imagineable and I know for certain stolen items were exchanging hands and dissapearing up country within hours of being taken.

But they were fun days, I well remember a market trader arriving at the gate and telling me was going to sell vibrating toys and he had been doing the markets successfully so thought he would give Truro a try. I set the sale up parking the sellers and went to supervise the busy main gate!

The sale had been going well until a distressed woman came to complain to me about the Market Trader! She said its disgusting and would not repeat in front of her two kids of 7 & 10 years what they had witnessed.
I asked her to wait while I find out what had happened but she was adamant to leave, I looked at the kids faces they seemed ready to burst out laughing!

Making my way to his stall I witnessed the funniest ever display where he had 24 willy pink shaped vibrators all batteried up bouncing up and down out of control to the amusement of the buyers and fellow traders.
Apparently the two boys had taken mother to the stall to state ‘This is like the one we found in your bedroom Mum’
Its true!
I had to tell him he could still sell them but they could not work which killed the gimmick stone dead but it was a bloody good laugh.

Does anyone remember a couple called ‘snatch & grab’ I dont want to be nasty to the woman but I understand she stole one of these vibrators and broke all her teeth!!

Its true. Ask Marge
