We have been asked so many times for a contact number for some of Russell’s old friends.
Marge kindly gave us the number today; 01872 863448 I bet the first caller will be Phyllis.
Julie his daughter is happy for Russell to receive calls.

Due to the reduction of the parking spaces at Truro caused by the severe heavy rains on all grounds there will be an additional Car Boot sale in Newquay Circus Fields on BANK HOLIDAY Monday 7th May at 12.00 noon.
This is to compensate those sellers who were unable to set-up their stalls at 7 of our Car Boot Sales over the past 2 weeks.
Geoff
TRURO Car Boot Sale will go ahead at 1.30 pm limited parking.

With the cancellation of MITCHELL and MABE due to ground conditions we successfully transferred MITCHELL to CIRCUS FIELDS yesterday with over 60 sellers and lots of buyers.
Today at TRURO with dreadful weather we went ahead with only 8 sellers although 3 sellers ‘chickened out’ by leaving the queue and going home a HUGE mistake.
We told the sellers it would be FREE and FREE to buyers. We were amazed that over 200 buyers braved the driving rains but the sellers did very well.
Great support from lots of our regulars, thank you.
One stall at Newquay told us he has take £350.00 several had taken over £100.00

Today at Falmouth Rugby Club we went ahead with only 14 sellers in the pissing rain and we admired the efforts of the buyers who supported such a small Car Boot. All sellers did very well and I was chuffed for a young couple who told me how desperate they were to make at least £48.00 ending up with over eighty quid!
There was about 150 people involved in today more than some of the shopping centres get in such a short period of time.
We are all going through hard times when it rains NO ONE GETS PAID but it is the COMMUNITY that loses out. Through the cancellations over the past 4 weeks of 11 of our sales countless people have lost the opportunity to sell and take part in the great recycling programme of Car Boot Sales giving the community.
We are giving up to the minute information on our website about cancellations wherever possible we will relocate to another venue but TRURO is the only ALL WEATHER Car Boot Sale where whatever the weather the sale goes ahead.
Our mobiles are constant from early morning to listen to the recorded messages, please-please do not text us, sorry but we do not have the time to reply as we are normally travelling or putting out the directional signs.

To CANCEL a Car Boot Sale is not an easy decision as there are so many conditions to consider.
On Saturday I spoke to the Landlord at Mitchell at 8.15 am and he said it was OK to go ahead with the 1.00pm Car Boot Sale. He then went to the grounds to pick up his tractor when he noticed severe cuts into the grass caused by the delivery of the portable toilets. He then retrieved his tractor from a rain sodden ground and spoke to Arlin who had put out all the direction signs for the sale asking him to let me know the ground conditions were too bad to go ahead with the Car Boot.
I inspected the grounds and agreed it was right to cancel, if we had gone ahead the damage to the fantastic way in which the Landlord presents the entire public areas would have been ruined for the season!
I inspected MABE early on Saturday morning and noticed several puddles from the heavy overnight rains and at 4.00pm I spoke with the MABE Landlord who said the fields would be damaged with over 1000 cars if we went ahead with the Car Boot. Decision time!
I had arranged with the Landlord of Truro Cattle Market that if MABE was cancelled we would transfer the MABE business to Truro, Lou said I was ‘bloody mad to think I could move it in such a short time’ Decision time! Prove her wrong!
Through the power of our website and the great CORNISH public including you the word was spread throughout CORNWALL and over 2400 people came to a fantasic muddy Car Boot Sale at TRURO!
Great day, great decision, great atmosphere.
Bear this in mind that if we were to be cancelled at short notice again at Mitchell we will move to Circus Fields-Newquay providing the Landlord agrees it is safe to use his grounds! I think I will throw a sick note in and leave that one to Lou! Hah!

In the 1980s I was General Manager of Pontins at Brean Sands in Somerset and I used to visit the other Pontins a few miles away at the lovely SAND BAY complex which catered mainly for elderly couples during the out of season months offering FULL BOARD holidays for bargain prices. Most of the charming OLD AGED PENSIONER couples would arrive by coaches from all over the country for a holiday to remember. Trouble is that a lot of these oldies could not cope with feeding their faces with three really good meals a day and supper ballroom dancing, swimming, competitions, cheap drinks, great stage shows and all round fun and possibly a little bit of ‘slap and tickle’ back in the old chalet! Imagine!
By day four some of the old fogies are wilting like Lillie’s and cannot cope with the pace but ‘I’ve paid for it and I am going for it’ is the general attitude despite the fact that on average there was at least one death a week from sheer exhaustion from those who could not cope with the pace. Pontins at Sand Bay was therefore known as GODS WAITING ROOM.
On one last night of the week at Sand Bay in the Ballroom where everyone was enjoying the build up to saying ‘Cheerio hope to see you again’ one old gent died in the middle of the dance floor and the quick minded Assistant Manager covered the body in a blanket surrounding it by chairs and carried on with the band stage show FINALE’ march of the MODS and the whole crowd did a CONGA around the deceased! How distasteful but bloody funny. Wake UP!
I used to have some really good chats with these lovely old folk but you would always get the few moaners who wont go for a walk and they wont join in the fun because they are too tired and their ‘too ill’ to be bothered to do more than just sit and bloody moan and the moaners are ALL MEN!
In the past two weeks as the season got busier I have seen so many old faces from previous years and I was shocked that two of them had almost given up the will to live saying their wives had tried hard to get them to exercise but they are happy to sit around and do nothing about their plights. One man said to me’ I have NO REAL REASON to get out of bed or any reason to live’ and yet we have a lady customer who has struggled against her cancer and taken all the treatment and medicines with terrible side effects she has finally been given the ‘all clear’ and it is a delight to see how happy she is to be with her devoted husband walking the walk and working together for her convalescence.
Come on lads don’t turn our Car Boots into GODS WAITING ROOM get up and do something about your ills and do some exercises, buy some weights, I do half an hour every day on the weights and then I go for a jog (then I wake up and its all a dream) but I remember the time when I was disabled and had to rely on the Blue Disabled Pass, that was 14 years ago! Get some exercise my lovers, Go for it!!
AMEN

Message: Hello, I don’t know you both but would like to really congratulate you on your fair play approach to everybody at your car boot sales. We all have a chance unlike at Rosudgeon and Hayle where its the rudest scavengers who push people out the way who benefit. They wouldnt behave like that in Tesco so why behave like that at a car boot sale! There are a chosen few small time/part time dealers who think they own the rights to be first in the cars of sometimes elderly sellers at those venues. They are a disgrace but they can’t get their own way at your sales and well done to you. I wish you huge success in all the car boot sales you run and thanks again for your very fair attitude to all. Best Wishes Polecat

I have edited some of Jim’s reply because the points raised are negative and I certainly do not want to get into a slagging match about events of many years ago.
Suffice it to say I have never had a cross word with Jan and there has never been said a word of discontent about her in all the years by any of the sellers or buyers.
However I will respond in full to the comments about MABE, TRURO, CARN BREA & NEWQUAY
Geof,
I was told by a friend at Hayle this morning about your statement, on your web site, which I have just read, it really upset Jan & I with your comments, and felt I had to respond, and set the record straight.
Firstly I have never ever slagged you or Lou off, and regarding the so could gentlemen friend of yours who would have liked too have smacked me in the mouth, if he exsist, tell him that I’m not a cockney, and would gladly like him to try because he sounds a very brave man, and would suggest he is trying to get in your favour by telling made up tales, also for the record, I was not furious when you and I agreed to part company( as your previous statements on your website states, we parted in good faith), infact it did us a favour. Also regarding your rules about buying before the bell, on many occasions I would be walking around with you and Lou, and Lou and I bought items in the early days, or pointed out items to each other.
Regarding the alledged slagging off,the only time your name came up recently was a couple of weeks ago at Carn Brea, when several people ( NO NAMES) were discussing you and your boot sales, and they asked me if I knew about Truro being given planning permission for a Park and ride and Waitrose, and that the owner had sold the Fair ground land at Newquay for housing, regarding Mabe some one else told me earlier in the year that you had fell out with the owner. Of course your names have come up in conversations over the years, their is a lot of people who do not like you or Lou, people would often come to our stall , and tell us that some one else had been banned, because of this and that, or that you intended starting a new bootsale.
To finish Geof, I do not want a slagging match with you, but would suggest you look a bit closer to home regarding what people think and say about you and Lou.
Please include this on your site so people can hear both side of the story.
Regards
Jim

TRURO;
So if WAITROSE have planning permission it will be great for Truro but the Landlords have not told me of any changes for the immediate future maybe some of the boot selling gossip mongers know more than our Landlords which is doubtful?
MABE; Your information about me having a row/dispute with the Landlod is correct but ‘The show must go on’ yesterday we had a BRILLIANT 2nd Car Boot this year when over 3500 people attended heralding in the 14th year at MABE!
NEWQUAY; Most of our customers know that the Circus Fields in NEWQUAY has created interest from developers who would like to redevelope the grounds with the approval of planning authorities. If it happens then we will already 2 have other locations in NEWQUAY to transfer the licence and business.
CARN BREA; For the record the ex-manager of the leisure centre asked CBC to run the sales at Carn Brea because he was not satisfied with the operators and the 5.00am start so he wanted changes. He asked for 7 different meeting in the end I suggested to him that HE should run the sales! Several weeks later he was replaced by a more HANDS ON manager who now runs the sales. It should go on records that the fiasco opposition by JIM, ERIC (wiggy) and ex PC GRAHAM etc to ensure we would not be welcome at Carn Brea backfired as we did not want the location!
One of the biggest fears of the ‘old soldiers’ of the Car Boot world is that they do not like change, imagine if we ran either HAYLE of ROSEUDGEON and operated our FAIR PLAY to all concerned policy at those Car Boot Sales I fear the mice would be throwing themselves onto the traps!
Amen!
Geoff
